November headline inflation was well above forecasts. Headline inflation came at 0.85%m/m, 4.72%y/y, while core inflation came at 0.25%m/m, 3.63%y/y. The seasonal increase in energy prices and the surge in tomato prices explains the surge in m/m readings for the headline. Food prices jumped to 1.62%m/m, 4.72%y/y reading, reflecting the rise in tomatoes's prices.

Producer prices has started to reflect recent MXN depreciation, increasing from 6.26%y/y to 6.51%y/y.

While 12m measured for both headline and core inflation had eased, the speed of the easing has been well slower than what Banxico was expecting and following latest MXN weakness, Banxico will have no choice but to hike again to control inflation expectations.
